Panacea extends into cooled piston rod
A recent development concerns technology to improve the heat balance along the piston rod. The benefit, especially for unlubricated applications would be that temperatures at the packing can be significantly reduced, thus extending lifetime of the packing.
Another benefit concerns an improved heat path from piston to the cross head, keeping temperatures at the piston core relatively low. This has benefits for the light weight piston, which range from lower cost to a positive feasibility for higher temperature applications.
Hence the favorable combination of the polymer piston and the „cooled piston rod”.
Panacea is currently evaluating two different concepts on the basis of theoretical studies and experimental work. Stay tuned for further developments.
